Zelma Mann Cowan

Mrs. Zelma Mann Cowan, 87, of Oxford, died Dec. 22. She was the widow of Edward F. Cowan. Mrs. Cowan was a lifelong resident of Newton County, was raised in the Starrsville community and attended the one-room schoolhouse at Starrsville. She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. In early years, she did volunteer work through the American Cancer Society and was a 4-H Club volunteer and was very active in the Flint Hill Home Demonstration Club. She and her husband worked side by side on their cattle and hay farm in Oxford. She was preceded in death by parents Clifford M. and Rosalee Guthrie Mann, brother Clifford M. Mann Jr. and sisters Louise M. Fincher and Versa M. Long.

Funeral services were held Dec. 26 in the chapel of Harwell-Funeral Home with Mr. Pete Carter and the Rev. Kerry Courchaine officiating. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association Metro Atlanta Region, Attention: Rhita Pfleger, 1925 Century Blvd. NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345.
