The Covington Worldwide Track Club recently competed in the LSU High School Indoor track and field meet on January 11-12, proving once again that it can run with the best of the best.
Several athletes from Alcovy and Eastside High placed during the event.
Alcovy's Darius Baker finished second in the 4 X 200 meter relay with a time of 1.29.93. Dangelo Cherry (Mount Zion), Reginald Juin (Heritage) and Malcom Bayah (Chamblee) rounded out the team.
Charlie Jones (Eastside) finished eighth overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2.08.18. William White (Eastside) landed 25th place during the 400 meter dash with a mark of 53.62.
Eastside's Whitney Martin was scheduled to run the 400 meter dash but did not start.
Other notable runners included Dangelo Cherry (Mount Zion), who finished second place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.30. It was the second fastest 2008 time in the nation.
Alycia Prior (Mount Zion) finished second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.17. Malcolm Beya (Chamblee) ended fifth during the 55 meter dash with a mark of 6.48.
The team will travel to the University of Florida on Feb. 2 in Gainesville, Fla. Following that it will compete in the USATF South Zone Jr. Olympic Championship on Feb. 17 at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
On March 14, Worldwide Track Club will compete at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York, N.Y.
