Walter Franklin Rawlins

Walter Franklin Rawlins, Sr. of Conyers died Saturday at the age of 90. Born in Dekalb County on Aug. 29, 1916 to the late Roy Franklin and Evie Hunt Rawlins, Mr. Rawlins was a member of Unity Church in Atlanta. After residing in Fairburn for 20 years, Mr. Rawlins moved to Conyers in 1985. He was the owner of Rawlins Outdoor Advertising Company in Atlanta. Mr. Rawlins was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #523 and was in Legion of Honor in the Shriners. He is preceded in death by his son, Walter Franklin Rawlins, Jr.

Mr. Rawlins is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Tom Kussman of Covington; grandchildren Dr. Sanford Reginald Hawkins of Thomasville and Patrick Russell Hawkins of Acworth; sister Hazel Berry of Pensacola, Fla.; brother Willie H. Hawkins of Hiram; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Mr. Rawlins will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home
