Three men were arrested Tuesday when they attempted to steal parts of a car on the side of the street on Fieldstone Lane.

Newton County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Verzinskie was dispatched to a call of entering auto in progress. Dispatch advised the complainant could see three males standing around a silver vehicle, which had been jacked up so they could remove the tires.

Verzinskie, along with deputies Chad Hunt and Charles Day, found a male in front of a green Ford Escort parked next to a silver Pontiac Grand Prix.

Two other males were sitting inside the Escort.

When asked what they were doing, the offenders, Harold Brownlee, 18; Preston Criswell, 17; and Craig Norton, 17; reportedly said, "Nothing."

The three suspects were taken into custody and the owner of the Grand Prix was notified. Hunt then located a hack saw under the Escort. Norton reportedly said they were using the hack saw to cut off the car's catalytic converter.

A half full bottle of Patron tequila was also found inside the offenders' car.

The three males were charged with possession of tools for a crime, criminal damage to property, theft by taking and possession of alcohol by a minor. They were later taken to Newton County Detention Center.
