Mrs. Susie Gibbs Pitts "Dessie" died May 4 in Rockdale County. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Otis (Ollie Bell Harris) Gibbs Sr., she was born in 1946 in Newton County. Mrs. Pitts was raised and educated in Newton County, graduating from high school in 1966. She worked as a lab technician for 15 years at NEPCO and later worked at Covington Manor and Riverside Nursing Home. An excellent seamstress, Mrs. Pitts enjoyed sewing, restoring old furnishing and growing flowers. Mrs. Pitts had a sweet, quiet spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be remembered for her radiant smile. She joined James Paschal Baptist church at an early age and attended Graves Chapel AME church with her husband and his family.

Surviving are devoted husband Mr. Rudolph Pitts (Pee Wee); stepchildren Mrs. Lisa Warren, Mr. Clifford D. Pitts, Mr. Onis D. Pitts; sisters Mrs. Beatrice Gibbs, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus (Lillie) Perry, Mrs. Dorothy Cox; brothers Mr. and Mrs. Otis (Leola) Gibbs Jr., Mr. Floyd Gibbs, Mr. S.T. Gibbs, Mr. Henry (Betty) Gibbs; sister-in-law Mrs. Elvira Gibbs; brothers-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Flemmie (Doris) Pitts, Mr. Rochester Pitts; uncle Mr. Ebbie (Sarah) Syphoe; aunts Mrs. Novella Baity, Mrs. Kate Hightower; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 8 at Graves Chapel AME Church, Social Circle, with the Rev. Charlie F. Stembridge Sr. officiating. Interment followed at Graves Cemetery.
