The varsity cheerleading squad at Piedmont Academy held its summer cheerleading camp during the week of July 16-20.

Coached by Tara Pope and Ashley Cook, the team enjoyed a successful turnout throughout the week.

An instructor from UCA taught the squad different cheers, chants, and dances. In addition, the instructor worked with the girls on partner stunts.

Based on its performance, the extremely talented cheerleading team was awarded a "superior" rating from the notable judges of UCA.

Besides an overall rating, awards were given out, as well.

The all-star cheerleaders selected were Sarah Wagnon, Kelly King, Lauren Morrison, Nichole Wilson and Lana Hiett.

The "Most Improved" award went to Bailey Dobbs and Christina Clark, while the "Leadership" award was presented to Mary Beth O'Brien.

Wagnon and Wilson won the "Jump Off" award. Wagnon also earned "Most Outstanding Cheerleader."

The "Super Sharp Divas" were awarded to Morrison and Wagnon, while "Cougar Achiever" award was presented to Megan Hammonds.

Covington students include King, Clark, Wilson, Wagnon, O'Brien, Marissa Kimbrell, Jessie Wagnon and Erica Barlow.
