A man was arrested Sunday after cutting his father with a knife during a fight.
Deputies were dispatched to Helen Road in reference in a fight in progress. Once on the scene, deputies found Michael Smith, 34, in the front yard with a knife. The deputies took Smith to the ground before disarming the suspect. Once Smith was in custody, the deputies entered the house and spoke to Smith's father.
The father said Smith tried to force himself into his bedroom before brandishing the knife. The father reportedly said he tried to keep his son back using a belt, but during the fight, Smith cut his father's hand.
Smith was placed under arrest on charges of aggravated assault and was transported to the Newton County Detention Center. The victim refused medical treatment.
