Ruth Underwood Hewell

 Mrs. Ruth Underwood Hewell, 90, a lifelong resident of Newton County, formerly of Porterdale, died at Riverside Healthcare Nov. 16. The daughter of the late William Thomas Underwood and Mary Frances Hill Underwood, she was born in Rockdale County in 1917.

She was retired in 1987 from Hercules where she worked in quality control. Mrs. Hewell was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by parents and husband Mr. James Hewell.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Jean and Richard Henderson of Covington; son and daughter-in-law W.D. and Peggy Harrison of Covington;; sister Lucile Hughes of Aiken, S.C.; grandchildren Rick and Syble Henderson, John and Missy Henderson, Bonnie Bagley; 11 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be today, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Dickie Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Relay for Life Team, Porterdale Baptist Church.
