Ruby Inez Hammonds Tuggle

Mrs. Ruby Inez Hammonds Tuggle, 90, died July 9 in Monticello. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Emmett (Millie Ann Banks) Hammonds, she was born in Newton County in 1917. She was raised in Newton County, and at an early age, she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where she enjoyed playing the piano for the Senior Choir. She was an active member until her health declined. An excellent homemaker, Ms. Ruby, as she was affectionately called, enjoyed caring for her family. For the past 18 years, she was cared for at the Retreat Nursing Home, Monticello. While there, she became a staff favorite even though she would never take any of her medicine. Mrs. Tuggle was preceded in death by husband Mr. Willie Coy Tuggle; brothers Marvin, Leonard and Bennie Hammonds; son Harold Tuggle; and great-grandchildren Kaina and Tarvon Tuggle.

Surviving are children Mr. Bobby Toggle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Harriett) Tuggle; Mr. and Mrs. Milton (Shirley) Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Chancey; grandchildren Ron Tuggle, Dexter Harris, Clinton Tuggle, Cassandra Jenkins, Felicia Tuggle, Sharquinta Tuggle, Al Edwards, Ameer Edwards, Franco Harris; great-grandchildren Jaelyn Lowe, Xavier Jenkins, Mikaela Jenkins, Ahmad Edwards, Ahmya Edwards, Clayton Tuggle, Marquez Harris, Kamari Harris; brother Mr. Emmett Hammonds; sister-in-law Mrs. Maggie Tuggle; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 13 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. H.K. Benton Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial park.
