Ronald (Ronnie) Mayson Sears

Ronald (Ronnie) Mayson Sears, 58, of Covington died Aug. 3 at Piedmont Hospital. Mr. Sears was a life-long resident of Newton County and was preceded in death by parents, Dewey Mason and Erma Mae Kitchens Sears. He had been employed as transportation supervisor for 18 years by the state of Georgia, where he covered Newton, Rockdale and Gwinnett counties. He had been a member of Gaithers United Methodist Church 27 years, where he served as usher for church services and also served as building superintendent. Mr. Sears was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed deer hunting and camping in the mountains.

Mr. Sears is survived by wife, Becky Henry Sears of Covington; daughters and son-in-law, Christy Pickett of Social Circle, Tammy and Darrell Cheek and Bethany Sears, all of Covington; grandchildren, Stuart Pickett, Landon Ervin, Brayden Cheek and Maggie Cheek; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Benny Hall of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marsha Sears of Covington; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Sears will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street. The Rev. Mickey Moss and the Rev. Danny Standard will officiate with interment to follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive family and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to the American Liver Foundation Georgia Chapter, 2250 North Druid Hills Road, Suite 285, Atlanta, Ga. 30329.
