Dear Editor: As reported in The Covington News on July 6, the BOC denied in a vote of three to two a task order for a survey and design of improvements to Livingston Lane and Veal Road. District Two Commissioner Earnest Simmons brought forward this petition and was supported by District Four Commissioner J.C. Henderson.
District Three Commissioner Ester Fleming had the audacity to state, "Where I'm coming from this project has just got to get in line." What a completely asinine statement to make. The remaining two commissioners went along with him saying me too, me too.
It is an affront to all of the property owners on this one-mile dirt road. We have been "in line" for years, Mr. Fleming. There are 70 homes on this road now. Another 20 are approved and a 50-acre tract has been zoned residential.
As a resident and my neighbor Melissa Adcock said, "I think that we really deserve as citizens of Newton County a road that is paved."
With the support of our Commissioner Earnest Simmons, we will continue this quest with vigor.
