For the second year in a row, Newton Medical Auxiliary, along with Stalvey's Restaurant and Lounge, will host a barbecue fundraiser for new medical equipment.

From noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday barbecue plates catered by Stalvey's - featuring either chopped chicken or chopped pork, Brunswick stew, coleslaw, pickles and bread - will be on sale for $6.

Martha Taylor, an organizer of the event, said drinks and desserts baked by Auxiliary members, including cakes, brownies, cookies and pies, will be available for purchase as well.

Taylor said 40 volunteers will be present Sunday serving the food.

Attendees can dine in or use the drive-thru window at Stalvey's, located on 3132 U.S. Highway 278

Stalvey's will donate 100 percent of the proceeds of the barbecue to the purchase of digital mammography equipment for the Women's Diagnostic Center. Last year the event raised more than $15,000.

Taylor said she'd like to see this year's amount total at least that much.

"We'd like to certainly do that and better," Taylor said.

Tickets for the event can be bought in advance at Newton Medical Center's volunteer office on Mill Street, at the hospital gift shop or at the Cinderella Shop on Pace Street.

Advance tickets to buy barbecue are not necessary but are encouraged to gauge food supplies.
