Newton Recreation hosting many youth programs

The Newton County Recreation Commission has released its schedule of day camp programs, which are held at the Turner Lake Complex.

The daily activities will be during the week-long school holidays for ages 6-12. Each camp begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until 6 p.m.

The Christmas camp is the next program, which will be December 17-21. The mid-winter camp is February 18-22, while the spring break camp is April 7-11.

Each weekly camp costs $65 per child and is limited to the first 100 registered children.

YOUTH BASKETBALL

The last day to register for the 2008 youth basketball season was last Friday. Anyone who did not sign up will be put on a waiting list.

The cost is $75 for the first child and $65 for each additional sibling from ages 7-18. The training league is $55 for the first child and $45 for each additional sibling from ages 4-6.

YOUTH TURKEY SHOOT

The Newton County Recreation Commission is hosting a youth turkey shoot from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on November 20 at the Turner Lake Complex.

There are three different age groups: 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12. Participants must register by November 1. There is a limit of 15 per age group, as well. The cost is $5 per child.

The winner of the game from each age group will also receive a free frozen turkey.
