Like Batman in the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight," the 9-10 year-old Newton County Minor League American All Stars have also dominated - on the diamond.

On July 12, the local squad won its first of five games in Manchester - a 4-3 victory over North Gwinnett.

In fact, the American All Stars went undefeated, winning the tournament and earning a trip to the state finals, which began Friday.

The next day they topped Hogansville, 7-1, and finished off their opponents with back-to-back-to-back wins over Lee County, 12-2; Taylor County, 10-1 and Mill Creek, 22-3.

Led by coaches Eddie Jones, Don Ritchey at Denny Hewell, the American All Stars began their best two of three series for the state title on Friday.

If Newton County wins, the team will advance to the Dixie Youth World Series beginning August 4 in LaGrange.

Team players include Jake Jones, Connor Hewell, Jared Jones, Blake Earnest, Dawson Stegall, Hunter Phillips, Jerry Pike, Austin Richardson, Madison Earnest, Hunter Davidson, Gray Ritchey and Chase Gilstrap.
