Nena Louise Baswell of Covington, 83, died Jan. 4 at Abbey Hospice. She was born in Etowah County, Ala. to the late Zell and Irene Coates Thornton. Mrs. Baswell was an active member of First Baptist Church of Covington, enjoyed gardening and loved to travel. She was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Mary Beth Malcolm.
Survivors include daughters, Ellen Kaye Brown and Robin Darlene Woodward; sons, Jerry Lynn Baswell and Jimmy Michael Baswell; grandchildren, Jeffrey Brown, Cindi Malcom, Stephanie Baswell, Ryan Baswell, Joshua Baswell, Aaron Dovin, Jason Dovin; great-grandchildren, Danielle Dovin, Samantha Dovin, Bailey Malcom, Caroline Malcolm; sisters, Jo Shortnancy, Faye Hall, Billie Jones; brothers, Robert Thornton and Brice Thornton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baswell will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 3134 Floyd Street, with the Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Collinsville, Ala. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at 3134 Floyd Street.
