Nellie Grace Jenkins White

Mother Nellie Grace Jenkins White died June 27. The daughter of the late Mr. Randolph Jenkins and Ms. Maggie Mae Bradley, she was born in 1921 and was reared by stepfather Mr. Buddy Richardson. Mrs. White was educated in the Newton County School system and joined Pleasant View Baptist Church at an early age. She served on the Mother Board until her health failed. A homemaker, she tended her children and grandchildren. Mrs. White loved her family. If you were hungry, she fed you. If you needed a place to stay, she took you in. She prayed for you. She was preceded in death by husband Mr. Oscar James White Sr., daughters Ms. Peggy Jean Heard and Mrs. Dorothy Mae White, brother Mr. Thomas Jenkins and sons Mr. Oscar James White Jr., Mr. Robert Lee White and Mr. Joe White.

Surviving are children Mr. and Mrs. Calvin (Rachel) Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. Few (Patricia) White, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Tracy) White, all of Covington; god-children Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lewis (Dorothy) Russell, Mr. Willie Lee Durden; 28 grandchildren; six god-grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two god-great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Mrs. Mary Lee White; sisters-in-law Ms. Overa Jenkins, Ms. Katherine White; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 30 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Camile Holmes officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
