Myrtice Lee Phillips Davis

Mrs. Myrtice Lee Phillips Davis died Aug. 21. The daughter of Mr. John Phillips Sr. and Mrs. Willie Bell Johnson Phillips, she grew up in Jackson. She worked as a cook for over 10 years for the Central Railroad Company and later worked at the Bibb Cotton Mill, Porterdale. Mrs. Davis was a long-time employee of Meadors Laundry and worked for several families in Covington - Gainer, Walker Harris and Miss Eva Mask. She was an avid member of the Newton County Senior Services at Turner Lake and enjoyed traveling with the group. She was a member of Murray Memorial C.M.E. Church where she was in the choir, Sunday School and Stewardess Board. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her mother, father, three brothers, one sister and her husband Mr. Bridges Davis.

Surviving are sons Mr. Rufus Troy Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Simmie (Laurie) Davis; granddaughter Ms. Shelathia Davis; grandson Mr. Seth Davis; three great-grandchildren; nephew Mr. and Mrs. Willie Hicks; sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Johnnie Mae) Alexander; the family of Mrs. Emogene Williams - Al, Delores, Andre, Avery, the Rev. Avis Williams; the Norwoods and the Clemons; her church family; a host of other relatives and friends; and Brittany her beloved pet.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at Murray Memorial C.M.E. Church with the Rev. A.C. McElroy officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery.
