Luke Kent, 79, of Stockbridge, died Aug. 12 at Sacred Journey Hospice, McDonough. The son of the late Joe Lucious and Molly Merritt Kent, he was born in Newton County in 1928. He was of the Baptist faith and loved cookouts with his family and working on cars.

Surviving are first wife Mary Scott of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law Laura and Tommy Price and Terri Kent, all of Stockbridge, Reba and Larry Roberts of Gaston, S.C.; sons Johnny Kent of Covington, Walker Kent of Mansfield, Larry Kent of Oxford; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 14 in the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with Dr. R. Hudson Moody officiating. Interment followed at Covington Mill Cemetery.
