On Tuesday, Newton High School hosted the Pre-Region 2-AAAAA Cross Country Meet.
Lithonia, Luella, Union Grove and Redan - along with non-region competitor Ola - each participated in the event.
Luella placed first overall for the boys and girls. Newton finished second (41), while the Lady Rams placed third (79).
For the boys, Newton's Travis Knight led all runners with a time of 18 minutes and 15 seconds. Luella's Kayla Hillihard led the girls with a mark of 21:08.
Other top runners for Newton were LeDarren Hall (5th, 18:55), Raymond Menfee (10th, 19:24) and Tyler Ransom (11th, 19:24).
For the girls, Newton's Ameryst Armstead finished second overall with a time of 21:19. Megan Heineman ended fourth overall (22:51).
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Nov. 3, Newton will host the cross country region championships. The top four teams and/or top six individuals will qualify for the state championship on Nov. 10 at Carrollton.
