The Covington YMCA is currently accepting youth soccer signups until August 5.
The fees for the recreational leagues are $68 for facility members and $78 for program members. The fees for the all-academy/select players are $88 for facility members and $98 for program members. (Financial assistance is available.)
Each child will play at least one-half of every game. Soccer practices begin on or after August 20, while games start on or after September 8.
A youth soccer coaches' meeting will be held on August 9, while a coaching clinic will be August 18 and August 25. (Volunteer coaches are also needed!)

Signups for baseball and softball start Monday
The Newton County Recreation Commission is holding online registration for fall baseball and softball beginning Monday. Walk-in registration is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 4 and August 11 only at the Newton Recreation Commission. (The final day to register is August 11.)
Boys must be at least five years old and no older than 14 as of April 30, 2008. Girls must be at least five years old and no older than 14 as of January 1, 2008.
Registration for the fall adult softball league ends August 10.
A deposit per team will be due at the time of registration, and the balance of the registration fee will be due September 4. The fee is based on the number of teams registering.
There will be a coaches meeting at 7 p.m. on August 21 at the Stone Road Complex.
On a side note, the football coaches' meeting has been changed to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Turner Lake Complex. The cheerleading coaches' meeting has been changed to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Tuner Lake Complex.

Piedmont Academy Golf Classic is August 20
The Piedmont Academy Athletics Golf Classic will be held August 20 at the Indian Creek Golf Club.
A breakfast buffet will be at 8:30 a.m. and the tee off will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The format is a four-person Lauderdale, with participants choosing their own team. There will be three flights, including prizes for each flight, and nine tee prizes.
The registration deadline is August 13. The entry fee is $400 per team. It includes breakfast, green fees, golf cart, range balls and one mulligan per player.

Annual Castings Kids Fishing Derby is August 4
The Metro Atlanta Hawg Hunters Bass Club presents the 11th Annual Castings Kids Fishing Derby 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 4 at the Georgia State fishery in Social Circle.
The event is catch and release, although some fish will be harvested.
All children will be supervised by club members and guardians, while the rules for the derby must be obeyed. In addition, it is required that everyone register a sign a release form.
Participants need not bring any fishing equipment or bait for the contest. However, it is highly recommended that everyone bring a hat due to the summer heat.
A casting contest will be held from 11 a.m. to noon prior to a lunch that will be served between noon and 1 p.m. Prizes and awards will be given to the winners from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. during a special presentation.
