Two armed men reportedly robbed a Waffle House and three people early Wednesday morning.

Newton County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Watterson said the two suspects entered the restaurant, located on Brown Bridge Road, wielding handguns and demanded everyone get on the ground. The men then took the money from till, two workers and a customer and left the building on foot. In all, the men reportedly made off with $600 in cash.

Both suspects were described as black men approximately 5 feet 10 inches in height. One man wore a dark bandana over his face and a grey hoodie while carrying a silver and black handgun. The second man was described by witnesses as wearing all black clothing.

The armed robbery is the first of the New Year in Newton County. In 2007, the county experienced a sharp increase in the number of violent robberies, one of which resulted in a man's death.
