TUCSON, Ariz. - In the busiest day of the Women's NJCAA National Tennis Tournament, the Oxford Lady Eagles ended the day among the tournament leaders.
Although Oxford's No. 1 and No. 6 singles players were knocked out of the main draw in the first round, numbers two through five all survived to play in the semifinals. Freshman Amy Minotti rolled with a win over Harford Community College, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. Freshman Sheetal Kandola improved on her first match difficulties with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
Freshman Maggie Dancel controlled her Rock Valley College opponent 6-1, 6-0; finally. Freshman Whitney Woodruff came back from a 3-6 loss in the opening set to her opponent from FIT to win the final two sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
The Lady Eagles also prevailed in the second and third doubles draws.
In No. 2 action, the pair of Minotti and Kandola overcame the team from FIT, 6-2, 6-2; at No. 3. Dancel and Lyndsey Davis prevailed over Harford Community College, 6-1, 6-3.
