Kathleen Tarver "Kitty' Varn

Kathleen Tarver "Kitty" Varn, 77, died March 2. The daughter of Catharine Mangham Tarver and Charles Edward Tarver of Cordele, she was born in 1930 and lived most of her life in Cordele and Albany. She taught high school English and was a school counselor for the Dougherty County School System.

While in Albany, she was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a member of the Albany Junior League. She moved to Covington 14 years ago after the death of her husband James Caulie "Huddie" Varn.

She was a dedicated member of The Church of the Good Shepherd where she served as a member of the Altar Guild, was coordinator of the church bookstore and was a member and past president of the Episcopal Church Women. She was a member of the Covington Garden Club, Newton Medical Auxiliary and several bridge clubs.

Surviving are daughters and son-in-law Lee and Bob Richardson of Covington; Catharine Cunningham of Covington and her son and daughter-in-law Jim and Aurora Varn of Greenwood, Miss.; sister and brother-in-law Liz and Jimmy Sealy of Blakely; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gordon and Katty Varn of Albany; grandchildren Wansley Griffin, Caulie Hamling, Whit Richardson, Pearson, Varn and Kathleen Cunningham, James and Estella Varn; great-granddaughter Tarver Griffin; several nieces and nephews; dearest friends Bob and Slade Bright of Cordele.

Funeral services were held March 4 in The Church of the Good Shepherd, 4140 Clark St., with the Rev. Timothy Graham officiating. A reception followed the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd, 4140 Clark Street, Covington, 30014.
