Mr. John L. Rooks, 86, of Covington, died Jan. 30. Mr. Rooks was born in Barrow County in 1921 and lived all of his adult life in Covington. He was a veteran of World War II and a life-long member of Red Oak United Methodist Church where he held every church office available. He ws an active member of the Covington Lions Club and Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge No. 6 in Covington. Mr. Rooks was the owner of Rooks Custom Wood Works, Covington. He was preceded in death by parents John Herschel and Cora Johnson Rooks and wife Mrs. Mattie Christine Berry Rooks.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Cindy Rooks of Humble, Texas, John Wayne and Jimmie Ruth Rooks of Newnan, Michael Rooks of Covington, Ricky and Carol Rooks of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law Rudolph and Ruth Rooks, Randall and Carolyn Rooks; sisters and brothers-in-law Julia and Theo Duncan, Joyce and Donald Allen, Jean Barnett; grandchildren Douglas and Stephanie Rooks, Stephanie and Brent McGee, Keely Rooks, Brittany Rooks; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Red Oak United Methodist Church with the Rev. Miguel A. Velez officiating. Interment will follow at Red Oak Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home.
