Jessie R. Smith, 62, of Covington, died July 19 at Rockdale Medical Center. The son of the late Rufus and Eva Smith, he was born in Bronx, N.Y., and enjoyed welding, camping and going to the mountains.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Chrissy Bowen of Thompson, Tina and Melvin Brake, Debbie and Donny Parker, all of Covington, Teresa Grainger of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons and daughters-in-law Don and Tammy Smith of Social Circle, Johnny and Sheryl Smith of Greenfield, Ind., Woody and Donna Grainger of Covington; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Stapp, Annie Ruth Bentley, Lillie Mae Henley; several nieces and nephews; special friends Daren and Kathy Stargel.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
