Jack T. Shumate, 89, of Covington, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 18. Surviving are wife of 69 years Florine Shumate of Covington; brother and sister-in-law C.H. and Drew Shumate of McDonough; sons and daughters-in-law Thurman and Harriett Shumate of Ellijay, Tony and Phillis Shumate of Covington, Mike and Linda Shumate of Newborn; daughter and son-in-law Jan and Eric Maxwell of Covington; grandchildren Darlene Burdett, Keith Shumate, Kim Fincher, Kelley Shumate, Mike Thurman, Tabitha Shumate, Pfc. Joshua Shumate, Little Tony Shumate, Meghan Maxwell, Bubba Maxwell, Anna Marie; great-grandchildren Christy Burdett, Chandler Burdett, Kacie Fincher, McKenzie Fincher, Colton Fincher, McKenzie Shumate, Eli Thurman and Makylah Thurman.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 28 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Hydes Chapel, 1630 Hightower Trail, Conyers, with the Rev. Bill Shepperd and the Rev. Mike Dickens officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
