Reckless driving and an unlit cigarette reportedly lead to a man's van careening through multiple yards before slamming into the back of a house Tuesday.

According to Newton County Sheriff's Office reports, William Michael was driving on Ga. Highway 81 toward Covington when attempted to light a cigarette. While lighting the tobacco, he noticed a van turn in front of him.

Michael reportedly swerved to avoid the van and ran off the road. His Chevrolet Sportsvan went across the yard at 2727 Ga. Highway 81 and caused damage to grass and destroyed a cedar tree.

His van crossed into another yard at 20 Townley Road and crashed into the rear of the house, reportedly causing extensive damage to the building, as well as manhole cover.
