Golfing for a good cause

The 2007 B.C. Crowell Scholarship Golf Tournament was held Friday morning at the beautiful Oaks Golf Course, and turned out to be quite a success.

Golfers from Newton County and other surrounding areas participated in the annual tournament, which helped support the on-going commitment toward the education of youth in Newton County.

Three scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to a student from one of the local high schools - Alcovy, Eastside and Newton - pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or technical school.

The scholarship fund has a local board administered by The Community Foundation.

Those who helped sponsor the event had a sign created with its company name and/or individual's name, which was placed on a green at the Oaks Course. It was a two-man scramble format, and included several prizes for participants.

The event is sponsored by the Newton County Recreation Commission, the Oaks Course, Community Vendors/Industries and area golfers.
