Gilbert Leon Swords Sr.

Gilbert Leon Swords Sr., of Covington died Aug. 12. The son of the late Plinnie Homer Swords and Lilly Melton Swords, he was born in 1928 in Fulton County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired L.U. No. 72 Plumber. Mr. Swords was an avid gardener and loved to play golf. He was preceded in death by wife Peggy Brown Swords.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Gilbert and Nancy Swords Jr. of Loganville, Steve and Karen Swords of Grayson, Phil and Debbie Swords of Conyers; brother and sister-in-law Donald E. and Jean Swords of Snellville; sister Mae Rufert of Folsom, Calif.; sister-in-law Marion Brown of Covington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Teddy and Betty Brown of Covington; grandchildren Lindsay Swards, Crystal Swords, Brent Swords, Tyler Swords, Dylan Swords; great-grandchild Landon Swords.

A private service will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3715 Northside Parkway, 400 Northcreek Suite 300, Atlanta, A 30327.
