Two men were arrested Thursday after allegedly attempting to cash a forged money order at the Quick Trip located at 3214 US Highway 278.
Earlier in the week, Quick Trip employees were told to be on the lookout for possible forged money orders. So the clerk was prepared when Antonio Cook and Loyda Martinez, both of Conyers, entered the store and presented a money order for $250.
The clerk examined the money order and compared it with the ones the store issued. He noticed that their money order did not have the secure document watermark on the back. The Covington Police Department was called and Cook and Martinez were subsequently arrested.
Both men were charged with forgery in the first degree and were transported to the Newton County Detention Center.
Cook's vehicle, a 1994 Chevy Corsica with a Wisconsin tag, was towed from the scene. The forged money order was taken into evidence.
