The Newton County Sheriff's Office has broadened their search for the remains of a dismembered woman to areas other than the neighborhood where pieces of her body were initially found.

NCSO Lt. Bill Watterson said investigators have shifted their focus from the initial crime scene to nearby rivers in an effort to locate the rest of the woman's body.

"We feel pretty certain that we have searched everywhere that the remains could be out there," Watterson said.

Thus far, investigators have located the woman's limbs but not her head or torso. Watterson said the woman was either white of Hispanic. An attempt to identify the victim through her fingerprints was unsuccessful.

"Right now we are following leads and anonymous tips and would ask the public to continue their help with the investigation with any information they have," Watterson said.

 Investigators have contacted local meat processing plants for possible missing equipment, but the search turned up no new leads.

The woman's remains were found Oct. 30 after a woman noticed her dogs fighting over the victim's foot. An extensive search of the area revealed the woman's arms, legs, feet and hands in separate pieces.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources also participated in the search. Nearby lakes were dragged and the woods around the crime scene were searched with cadaver dogs.

Investigators even used a Global Positioning System chip to track the movements of the dog who found the foot, but the inquiry turned up nothing new.
