Emily Stearns, 62, of Covington, died peacefully at her home June 26. The daughter of the late Marcus H. and Mary Hodges, Poppell, she was born in England. She worked as an LPN at Covington Manor Nursing Home for 18 years and worked for Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Star Crest Nursing Home in Conyers. Mrs. Stearns was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Perry. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She is preceded in death by daughter Millie Carrier.

Surviving are husband Thomas G. Stearns Sr. of Covington; daughter and son-in-law Annette and Michael Durden of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law Thomas G. Jr. and Jeanette Stearns of Covington, Todd L. and Julie Stearns of Jackson, Miss.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, in the Access Road chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with Don Hock officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605, in memory of Emily Stearns.
