Edna S. Bedsole, 78, of Union Point, died Feb. 16. The daughter of the late Aubrey James Sr. and Idell Tankersley Sharpton, she was born in Newton County and was of the southern Baptist faith. Ms. Bedsole lived a life os self-sacrifice and servitude. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and watching the Braves and was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Ms. Bedsole was preceded in death by son Ray Martin.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Audrey and James Usry of Mundelein, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Meg Martin of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren Reneé and Matt Thackston of Greensboro, Edward and Natalie Bradley of Athens, Charles and Virginia Martin and Michael Paul Martin, all of Richmond; great-grandchildren Brad Thackston of Greensboro, Reese Bradley of Athens; brothers Charles Samuel Sharpton and family of Columbus, Ohio, Aubrey James Jr. and Janice Sharpton of Lawrenceville; nephew Aubrey James Sharpton III.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 20, in the Floyd Street chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with the Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today, Feb. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
