The Dixie Boys World Series Golf Tournament starts at noon (shotgun start) Friday at the Oaks Course.

The tournament is designed to raise awareness regarding the much anticipated 2008 Dixie Boys World Series that will be held by the Newton County Recreation Commission Aug. 1-7.

It will be the third time Covington, as well as the award-winning Newton County Recreation Department, has hosted the Dixie Boys World Series.

And the community will benefit in many ways from this prestigious event, just as it has in years past. Guests will stay locally, eat locally, play locally and shop locally, bringing more revenue to downtown Covington.

The golf tournament includes several prizes, such as long drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one. The buffet lunch begins at 11 a.m. and free beverages are provided throughout the day.
