Dear Editor: As a spectator in the Newton County Courthouse on Aug. 2, I watched a deadbeat parent walk free again. Why does Newton County support dead-beat parents? Why does our justice system allow a father of two lovely children to walk out of a courtroom without as much as a slap on the wrist after not paying court-ordered child support for the last six months?

This father has a good job, wears nice clothes and hired a well-known attorney to represent him in court. That money could have been spent on his children.

We need to find out why our justice system is not working and is letting dead-beat parents go free. We need to have judges who will come down hard on dead-beat parents. As registered voters of Newton County, we can vote for a judge who will.
