Thanksgiving is a time to acknowledge our blessings, give thanks and think of families and friends. At 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, the historic Old Church on Wesley Street in Oxford will open its doors to welcome people from all denominations in a combined community Thanksgiving service.

The co-planners of this event, the Rev. Sean Nix of Oxford Baptist and the Rev. Brian Dale of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, anticipate the service to be well attended again this year.

"The highlight of the combined service is sharing some elements of worship that you may not have," added Pastor Nix.

An honored tradition, the community of churches in Oxford enjoy planning this community wide event. Each pastor will be responsible for a different role to include the choir, sermon, scriptures and communion.

Oxford Baptist, Allen Memorial UMC, Rust Chapel UMC and North Covington UMC will join together in leading this special time of worship.

"We want to make sure that the entire community knows they are welcome to attend," said Pastor Nix. "It is a very neat time of worship, in which we incorporate a little bit of each churches style of worship."

Each year, this combined effort takes up a special offering. Contributions will support FaithWorks, a local ministry that helps local families with immediate financial needs such as rent, and utilities.

"We will also receive canned goods to stock the pantry at Solid Rock Baptist," said Pastor Dale.
