 The Covington Lions Club will hold its 36th annual Chicken Barbecue from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 9 at the Academy Springs Park Pavilion on Conyers Street.

 Plates cost $6 and include a half barbecue chicken, cole law, bread, potato chips and iced tea. Desserts will be available for a nominal fee.

 Lions heavily support the Georgia Lighthouse Foundation, which provides community vision screening and literature; the Emory Children's Eye Center, which offers cutting-edge genetic research and operations for children; Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind and Dyslexic, which provides personal growth experiences for children, teens and adults with visual impairments through the use of recreation, education, socialization and rehabilitation in an outdoor setting; Leader Dogs for the Blind; Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF); The Georgia Lions All State Band; Girls & Boys State; and scholarships to two graduating seniors from Alcovy, Eastside and Newton high schools.

 They also coordinate the annual Christmas Parade.

 Members have purchased, installed and maintained the playground on site at Academy Springs Park as well.

 Lions will collect unused eyeglasses, cell phones and hearing aids for the needy at the event.
