A 7-year-old boy was attacked by a dog and had to be rushed to Emory Children's Center on Saturday.
Lyle Fox said his grandson was staying with his father, Austin McIntrye, in Covington when the father's pet Akita attacked the boy. The dog bit the boy's leg, hand, stomach and shoulder before going for his throat. Fox said his grandson managed to turn his head so the dog was only able to bite the back of the boy's neck.
911 was called and the boy was taken to the children's center in Atlanta. The Newton County Sheriff's Office responded to the call, but turned the case over to the Newton County Animal Control.
Fox said the boy was in good condition after three hours of surgery for his wounds.
"(Monday) was a really, really bad day," Fox said. "It was a very painful day for him. But he is doing much better today (Tuesday). He was able to walk around."
Future skin grafts might be required, Fox said, as well as other possible surgeries.
The dog, which Fox said weighed about 100 pounds, was taken by to the animal shelter. The NCAC could not be reached for comment.
