Betty "Hazel" Duke Dooley

Betty "Hazel" Duke Dooley died July 17. The daughter of the late Van and Cassie Duke, she was born in 1938 and was a life-long resident of Newton County. After many years of service with Southern Bell, she retired from the Credit Bureau of Covington. She very much enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ms. Dooley was preceded in death by parents Cassie and Van Duke, sister Shirley Shaw and great-granddaughter Abigail "Abbi" Lynn Dooley.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Pam and Tommy Thomason, Sonya and Greg Evans; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Ellen Dooley; brother Terry Duke; brother and sister-in-law Clayton and Pat Duke; sister Geraldine Patrick; sister and brother-in-law Rosemerry and Billy Simmons; grandchildren Wendy Coleman, Matt Reynolds, Donna Watson, Jason and Tiffany Reynolds, Kristen Dooley, Heather Dooley, Amber Evans and Mackenzie Evans; great-grandchildren Logan Coleman, Joey Reynolds, Dylon Dooley, Emma Dooley, Harley Watson, David Watson; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral home today, July 18, from 6 p.m. to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 19, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. David Payne and Billy Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Flowers are acceptable, or in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Kidney Foundation.
