An arrest has been made in connection with an apparent act of road rage that occurred last week.

Newton County Sheriff's investigator Sharron Stewart said John Wiggins, of Decatur, has been charged with aggressive driving after the incident, which took place on Interstate 20.

The victims reported Wiggins shot at their Freightline tractor-trailer, but Wiggins denied the act. Stewart said there was not enough evidence to connect Wiggins with the bullet hole in the tractor-trailer.

"Road rage seems to be happening more and more frequently," Stewart said. "People should always be aware of those around them on the road."

 The confrontation reportedly transpired after the victim's tractor-trailer almost collided with Wiggins' brown GMC Yukon, which was forced off the road, Stewart said.

The incident was totally accidental, the victim said, but the driver of the Yukon reportedly became very angry.

The victim said Wiggins brought the SUV even with his tractor-trailer and opened fire with a handgun. Wiggins reportedly said he tried to cut the tractor-trailer off but never shot at it.

A bullet was found in the interior of the cab of the truck, said NCSO Lt. Bill Watterson.

After the incident, the victims followed the Yukon off I-20 to Salem Road, but the SUV reportedly doubled back and returned to the interstate. The description the victims were able to provide directly led to Wiggins' arrest.
