Former University of Louisville and Rockdale County High School basketball standout Kevin Ware announced this past weekend that the guard will continue his playing career at Georgia State.

Ware announced that he was leaving the Cardinals’ program after two seasons at Louisville at the end of March to play closer to home.

Ware’s stepfather Wesley Junior told The Associated Press that Ware will join the [blanks] program after visiting the Georgia State campus on Saturday.

"He's happy to be close to home and close to family," Junior told The Associated Press. "Now, it's now a 30-minute drive up the street instead of six hours."

Ware still has to apply and be accepted to Georgia State and will seek a medical redshirt from the NCASS that would allow him to play two remaining seasons in the league.

Ware thanked the Louisville organization Saturday via twitter.

“I want to thank the entire cardinal (sic) organization from the coaches, to the staff, trainers, fans, and anyone who's been a supporter of me. No matter where I am it'll always be #L1C4.”

Ware gained national attention during last year’s NCAA Tournament when he broke his leg in a win over Duke in the Elite Eight.

Ware made his return to the court on Nov. 6 in an exhibition game against Pikeville College before scoring five points in 13 minutes on Nov. 13 in his regular-season debut against Cornell.

Ware, who averaged 1.7 points in nine contests with the Cardinals this season, took a medical redshirt after Louisville’s contest against Missouri State on Dec. 17. Ware was incidentally struck in the leg against Missouri State.

Ware averaged 13.2 points, 4.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals as a senior at Rockdale County High School. Ware and the Bulldogs finished with a 26-6 record his senior year, reaching the state finals. Ware was a first-team all-state selection as a senior.
