COVINGTON, Ga. -- After Eastside's 27-20 victory over Class AAAAAAA rival Newton Friday, the Eagles jumped a spot from No. 9 to No. 8 in this week's Class AAAA top 10 rankings.

The win over the Rams marked the Eagles' fourth straight victory over a school from a higher classification, and it gives Eastside its first 2-0 start to a season since 2015. In 2016, Eastside started out 1-0-1 as it tied Newton 41-41 without going into overtime.

Coach Troy Hoff's team will face another higher classification school and its second straight in-county rivalry game when it faces Alcovy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Sharp Stadium.
