Conyers Post 77 handled Cumming Post 307 with ease in an 8-0 shutout in American Legion play Tuesday at Legion Field.

Four players from Eastside and Alcovy played a key part in the win and Post 77 coach Eddie Bagwell was proud of their contributions.

"Seth Allen was hit in the head with a ball on Sunday night and still came out here tonight ready to compete," Bagwell said. "He told me all week that he was scared about playing scared but he acted like nothing ever happened and swung the bat really well tonight."

Allen's teammate at Eastside Randy Loew pitched well in the victory and made a diving catch after an attempted bunt that excited his teammates and the crowd.

"Randy came in and pitched an excellent game tonight, made some great plays on 3rd base in game one and is swinging the bat much better as the season progresses," Bagwell said.

Former Alcovy star Beau Thomas also got some work on the mound in game two, as did former Tiger teammate Taylor Jackson. Both pitchers threw scoreless innings.

"Beau and Taylor are our No. 1 and No. 2 pitchers and they both throw the ball up there really nice," Bagwell said. "They are the older guys on this team and they do a great job at leading by example."

The fairly stress-free night bodes well for Conyers as they head into a critical doubleheader against county rival Rockdale.

"We got a lot of good work in tonight but the true test will come on Thursday," Bagwell said.

Conyers Post 77 is 17-3 and can do a lot for its playoff positioning in the state tournament depending on how Thursday's rivalry games against Rockdale go.

"That could have major influence on who takes the No. 2 seed in the state championship," Bagwell said. "We have to come out ready to compete. That's really all I ask of my guys. I want them to come out here every night ready to work hard and ready to compete. They are ahead of us right now but if we execute and win then we will be in a good position going into the championships."
