NCSS to honor Carlvon Betts

Newton County School System Director of Public Reactions, Sherri Davis-Viniard says that the high schools will honor Carlvon Betts – Newton soccer player, who passed away this week – March 25 at Sharp Stadium where the Rams will play Alcovy.

Newton will retire Betts’ jersey at the game, and Tracy Betts’ says all gamne proceeds will go to the Carlvon Betts soccer scholarship fund, that she hopes to continue for years to come. Extending the scholarship to all schools in Newton and Rockdale county. No other events are planned at this time Davis-Viniard said.

“Newton County School System extends its sincere condolences to the family of Carlvon Betts, a student at Newton High School and the Newton College and Career Academy. Carlvon died Wednesday morning as a result of injuries he sustained in a car accident Tuesday evening,” Davis-Viniard said in a news release.

She added, “We hope that everyone will respect the Betts family’s privacy during this very difficult time. Please continue to keep Carlvon’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”
