COVINGTON, Ga. — Throughout the 2021-22 season, the Newton Lady Rams have received contributions from almost everyone on the court. There is one player, however, who has emerged as the team’s leader thus far.
Ashleigh Norris is a senior guard for the Lady Rams.
From her perspective, Norris feels as if she and her teammates are gelling together at the right moment.
“So far the season’s been a little rocky with us trying to find our groove,” Norris said. “But all the pieces are starting to come together.”
Norris isn’t involved in any other activities at Newton High School. She’s all in on being a Lady Ram basketball player.
A large part of her 100% commitment to the sport has been the relationship with her fellow Lady Rams.
“I have the best bond with my teammates,” Norris said. “They are like my best friends. I have a great bond with the coaches, too. I can play and joke around with them at any time. I’m really comfortable around them.”
Playing a game in front of a home crowd, too, is the best part about playing basketball at Newton High School, according to Norris.
But being a Lady Ram has meant more to the senior guard than just playing basketball.
For Norris, it has completely changed her mindset about various areas of her life.
“This school has made me open my eyes about some things,” Norris said. “Basketball itself taught me a lot of life lessons during my high school career. The decisions I make on the court are similar to decisions I make off the court.”
Norris’ favorite class at Newton High School is forensics. After she graduates in May, Norris plans to keep playing basketball and learn how to make anime.
