All three Newton County high school baseball teams have earned a berth into the 2013 state playoffs, beginning Friday.
The Eastside Eagles and Alcovy Tigers will host their playoff games, which could carry over to Saturday if necessary in the best-of-three series. Eastside faces the Troup County Tigers and Alcovy welcomes the Westlake Lions, starting with Friday’s doubleheaders beginning at 4 p.m.
If Eastside wins it will advance to the second round and host either Cass High School or Columbia High School the next week.
If Alcovy wins, it will either travel to No. 1 seed Lowndes or host the Hillgrove Hawks the following week.
The Newton Rams travel to Newnan High to face the Cougars in the opening round.
A series victory will move the Rams on in the Class AAAAAA state playoffs at either the McEachern Indians or the Tift County Blue Devils the next week.
Alcovy finished its regular season with a Region 2-AAAAAA record of 10-2 and an overall record of 19-6. The Tigers finished the season on a three-game win streak and won nine of their last 10 games.
Eastside finished its regular season on a three-game win streak. The Eagles won the 8-AAAA region title with a 13-3 mark, and a 21-5 record overall.
The Newton Rams finished their season on a three-game losing streak and lost nine of their last 10 games. The Rams finished their regular season with a 6-6 region record and an 8-18 overall record.
