Social Circle repeats at Redskin Rumble

The Social Circle High School wrestling team won the Redskin Rumble for the second year in a row this past weekend, coming out on top at the 11-team event.

Alcovy, Evans, George Walton Academy, Jones County, Lamar County, Monticello, Morgan County, Newton County, Salem and Walnut Grove joined the Seminoles at the event.

In addition to the 11 teams, tournament director and SCHS coach Randy Prater assembled an additional Social Circle team to compete in the event.

Social Circle's first team finished first overall with 260.5 points.

Alcovy and Morgan County finished second and third overall with 226 and 156 points, respectively.

The Redskins second team (133) and Monticello (121) reounded out the top five at the event, while Newton County (120), Evans (96), Jones County (89), Walnut Grove (41), Salem (16), Lamar County (11) and George Walton Academy (3) rounded out the rest of the finishes. 

“The tournament ran very smoothly," Prater said. "I was glad to be able to put together two teams for the event. Because of scheduling for next year, we might not be able to have this event.”

Social Circle had five wrestlers finish in first place in their respective divisions.

Stevie Howard (113), Reid Harris (120), Cade Lackey (132), A.J. Howard (138) and David Engstrom (145) earned first-place finishes for the Redskins. In second place for Social Circle were Aaron Forrester (152) and Jeremy Tyson (170).

Senior Justin Givens placed third at 160 pounds, with Dawson Queen (126), Ryan Harris (182), Colton Stairs (195) and Eric Wilson (285) all taking fourth in their divisions.

“I knew our second team was going to be very strong," Prater said. "(We) have several weight classes very deep with talented wrestlers, so it was good to get them into the tournament to end their season with a strong finish.”

Social Circle’s second team finished with three wrestlers placing second including Trey Paschal (113), Cameron Paschal (138) and Chase Steven (145).

Senior Jacob Noth (145) finished third and Zack Kinnon (106), Jacob Wilson (132) Joseph Eidson (220) all placed fourth.

The Rumble also gave Social Circle the chance to recognize their seniors. The Redskins too time before the tournament to honor senior wrestlers Ryan Davis, A.J. Howard, Jacob Noth, Jutsin Givens, Josh Tyson, Jeremy Tyson, Tevin Burke, Joseph Eidson and Eric Wilson and senior managers Taylor Brown and Jordon Holcome.

Social Circle will compete in just three more regular seasn tournaments, including next week at the Area tournament hosted at Greater Atlanta Christian where the top-4 wrestlers in each weight class advance to Sectionals.
