Another summer, another Dixie Boys tournament descends on City Pond Park this weekend.

The 13-year-old junior Dixie Boys and 14-year-old Dixie Boys Georgia state tournaments get started Saturday, running through Wednesday, if the rain cooperates.

Both tournaments will run at the same time, on two of City Pond Park’s fields, beginning at 1 p.m.

The West Georgia teams get things started, facing Troup County at 1 p.m. in the junior tournament, while the 14-year-old team faces Columbia County at the same time in the Dixie Boys tournament.

The host team then takes the field at 4 p.m. in the four-team junior tournament, playing Harris County on Field two.

The Newton County 14-year-old team plays at 7 p.m., taking on Duluth on Field four. Rounding out the first round of the eight-team Dixie Boys’ tournament is Mountain Park facing Harris County at 4 p.m. and Lawrenceville playing Albany at 7 p.m. on Field 3.

The Dixie Boys 14-year-old team, representing Newton County, is managed by Greg Evans and coached by Mike Bloodworth and Greg Hogwood.

Taking the field for the Dixie Boys’ team are Austin Bone, Joshua Cammon, Dalton Cole, Gregory Evans, Tyler Hogwood, Cody Moody, Austin Parish, Jerry Pike III, Chase Raines, Caleb Sauls, Chandler Sweat and Daniel Thompson.

The Dixie Boys Junior team is managed by David Callaway and coached by John Anglin and Gary Thompson.

Players for the 13-yearold team are: Talon Anglin, Dawson Archer, Zackary Callaway, Landon Hammond, Corey Hays, Zachary Kinnon, Stone Patterson, Williams Sanders, Seth Sheinutt, Michael Thompson, Robert Thompson and Tytus Ulrich.

Last year, Newton County Parks and Recreation hosted the 14-year-old Dixie Boys World Series at City Pond Park Aug. 2-7, with champions from each state of Dixie Boys youth baseball league descending on Covington. The Georgia team came out on top in 2012, with the West Georgia team defeating the host team, Newton County, 5-2.
The 2013 Dixie Boys World Series will take place Aug. 3-7 at Shaver Complex in Seneca, S.C.
