Kickball league coming to area

The days of summer are turning into the days of your youth, as kickball comes to Rockdale.

The American Association of Kickballers, a Metro Atlanta based kickball league for adults ages 18-65, is kicking off Aug. 3 at Johnson Park.

Registration for the summer league ends July 26 and is $150 for new players and $100 for returning players.

The 10-game season will be played on Saturday afternoons, and games last an hour, 15 minutes or seven innings.

Each team must field at least eight and no more than 11 players, including a pitcher and catcher throughout the game. Two members of the team kicking may coach first and third base.

Players and teams compete against each other to win the championship for that league. But, the common goal for everyone involved is to raise money for cancer research and providing support to cancer survivors

"It has brought together so many amazing women with the same goal of striving to leave a positive footprint on their communities," said AAOK President Carolyn Erves. "This experience has truly exceeded all of my expectations."

A fall kickball league run by AAOK just finished up in July at Johnson Park with the team "Str8 Ballin" taking first place. But more importantly, more than $500 was raised for Relay For Life, and players visited cancer patients and took them gifts as well.

"Players will get a chance to help others and gain self worth," Erves said.

"They all will get a personal accomplishment of helping others."
