Ellwanger sets school record

Drew Ellwanger set a school record at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association conference championship in the 100 breastroke recently in Athens.

The former Eastside standout finished the race in 55.57 seconds for the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs.
Ellwanger's All-conference time bested his 1:05.50 he swam at Virginia Tech, just falling short of the Olympic Trial cutoff.

In Athens, Ellwanger placed third in the 200 breastroke with a personal best of 2:04.13. It was his fourth All-CCSA performance during the meet.

Gardner-Webb finished in third place in the meet with 11 swimmers earning All-CCSA honors.

College of Charleston (890.5) finished atop the men's team standings. Davidson (884) was 2nd, and Gardner-Webb (717.5) finished in 3rd place. VMI (338.5) followed in 4th, and Howard (235) finished in 5th place.

Last season Ellwanger finished second in the 100 breastroke at the CCSA meet with a time of 56.71, and a time of 2:04.75 in the 200 breastroke.

Ellwanger swam for the Rockdale Riptides Swim and earned All-state honors in the 100 breaststroke while at Eastside.
